Sembcorp Industries (Sembcorp) today announces a pledge of S$1 million to support Vietnam’s battle against the COVID-19 crisis, with an immediate focus to provide critical medical equipment to two major hospitals in Binh Duong, one of the provinces most affected by the latest development of the pandemic in the country.

Sembcorp will provide one real-time RT-PCR system and 12 high-end BIPAP ventilators to Binh Duong General Hospital and 65 patient monitors to Becamex International Hospital (Binh Duong). The medical equipment is targeted to be delivered in batches, starting with a first delivery today to enable the hospitals to deploy them for critical patient care.

Their Excellencies from the Binh Duong People’s Committee, HE Mai Phuoc Dung, Vietnam’s Ambassador to Singapore, HE Jaya Ratnam, Singapore’s Ambassador to Vietnam, Binh Duong Fatherland Front Committee as well as executives from Binh Duong General Hospital and Becamex International Hospital (Binh Duong) will join Sembcorp executives at a virtual handover ceremony this afternoon.

Wong Kim Yin, Group President & CEO of Sembcorp Industries, said: “Sembcorp has deep ties with the community in Vietnam through our local energy and urban solutions businesses. We stand in solidarity with the Vietnamese people as they face one of the hardest hurdles in the global fight against the pandemic. Every effort counts in saving human lives. We salute the dedication of the frontline workers and hope the situation will ease quickly soon.”

Since 1996, Sembcorp has participated in Vietnam’s industrialisation through the Vietnam Singapore Industrial Parks (VSIPs); Vietnam’s first independent power project – the Phu My 3 BOT Power Company; Vietnam-Singapore Smart Energy Solutions; Sembcorp Infra Services warehouses and The Habitat Binh Duong residential project.

About 350,000 local jobs have been created in the 10 VSIPs in Vietnam’s southern, northern and central economic zones. Sembcorp remains committed to the Vietnam market and is also expanding its renewable energy capabilities to support Vietnam’s low-carbon future.
