To provide Singaporeans with more work-study opportunities in emerging and growth sectors, four new SkillsFuture Work-Study Programmes will be introduced by Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs), offering more than 140 places over the next two years. One of these is the first SkillsFuture Work-Study Degree Programme to be delivered in a Place-and-Train mode.

SSG has also developed the SkillsFuture Work-Study Portal to improve job-matching between interested trainees and companies to further support the expansion of Work-Study Programmes.

These were announced by Ms Gan Siow Huang, Minister of State (Ministry of Education and Ministry of Manpower), at the virtual SkillsFuture Work-Study Fair today, which is part of the ongoing Skills Future Month. About 2,400 students, graduates and members of the public participated in the fair virtually.

Expansion and Enhancement of SkillsFuture Work-Study Programmes

More than 5,600 individuals and over 1,400 companies have benefited from a wide range of SkillsFuture Work-Study Programmes since the launch of the first SkillsFuture Work-Study Programme in 2015. To provide Singaporeans with more of such opportunities, SSG is working in partnership with the IHLs and industry partners to enhance existing programmes as well as to launch new ones.

For one, a new Bachelor of Technology in Computing Work-Study Degree will be rolled out in mid-August 2020 by the National University of Singapore (NUS), in partnership with Singapore-based global consumer Internet company, Sea and SSG.

This is the first SkillsFuture Work-Study Degree Programme to be delivered in a Place-and-Train mode, with participants hired as full-time Junior Analysts prior to the start of the programme. Participants will undergo workplace-based training, assignments and assessments, which will contribute close to 30% of credits towards the degree. Upon completion of the three-and-a-half-year programme, trainees will graduate with a Bachelor of Technology Degree conferred by NUS, and have the opportunity to further progress in the company to become full-time Analysts. As part of this partnership, Sea is committed to hiring 120 students over the next five years. For the inaugural run, NUS and Sea have partnered Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Singapore Polytechnic (SP) to hob their graduates to participate in this Work-Study Degree Programme. Enrolment for subsequent intakes will be open to eligible Polytechnic graduates from relevant disciplines.

Three new SkillsFuture Work-Study Programmes in the biomedical sciences and media sectors will also be launched by Nanyang Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic and Temasek Polytechnic.

To provide more opportunities for Polytechnic graduates in the growing e-commerce landscape, Nanyang Polytechnic will launch a new Work-Study Post Diploma (Specialist Diploma in Digital Content Creation for E-Commerce). Commencing in September 2020, the programme aims to equip participants with e-commerce and digital content creation skills to support organisations and businesses in creating and delivering engaging contents across multiple digital channels.

Republic Polytechnic MI also launch new Work-Study Certificates leading to a Part-Time Diploma in Business Practice (Digital Marketing and Branding) This programme aims to equip ITE graduates with practical digital marketing and branding skills, and provide participants with a head-start M a digital marketing career. The programme will commence in October 2020.
