Music and movement can certainly transcend physical boundaries during this COVID-19 Circuit Breaker period. Two beneficiaries of The Business Times Budding Artists Fund (BT BAF) took the lead in taking over 25 staff of leading advanced integrated security organisation Certis through a dance workshop to create a video for Kindness Day SG’s TikTok Hashtag Challenge on 22nd May.

In conjunction with Kindness Day SG, BT BAF Beneficiaries and Certis continue to give back to the community despite the COVID-19 Circuit Breaker

For 14-year-old beneficiary Nur Adrianz Bin Kamaruddin, this was his first time leading a dance workshop. “What I found the most enjoyable was that I got to interact with new people from different backgrounds and also have the chance to teach others. I really enjoyed teaching a part of the session to Certis employees today and I would like to have more opportunities to do so in the future”, said Adrianz.

This dance workshop capped off the 4-part Community Give-Back series sponsored by Certis. In the past year, the programmes from this series has enabled BT BAF beneficiaries to utilise their artistic talents to reach out to and uplift other needy members of the community through various activities. The BT BAF was set up in 2005 and aims to provide arts education for young talented children and youths from disadvantaged backgrounds. It is managed by not for profit arts and culture organisation, The RICE Company Ltd.

As a socially responsible corporate citizen, Certis is a keen supporter of initiatives that empowers disadvantaged children and youth. This last programme was held as part of the Community Give-Back series, and CertisUnited, an employee-led initiative to raise awareness of the employees’ physical, mental and social well-being during these challenging COVID-19 times.

Said Ms Yuen Shuang Ching, Vice President, Group Service Excellence, Certis, who was one of the participants in the workshop: “TikTok dance is completely new to me. I quickly caught onto the moves, thanks to the energetic youth trainers from BT BAF. They have taught us what it is like to be courageous to learn a new skill on the spot. It is also very meaningful for us to be able to engage children and youth through dance in celebration of Singapore Kindness Day.”

The workshop was also joined by 13 other BT BAF beneficiaries. For 15-year old Krystal Yap who was of the participating BT BAF beneficiaries the workshop was a “gratifying experience” and she “found the most enjoyable thing about this experience was that we had people from different age groups; children, youths and adults to learn a simple dancetogether because it allows us to interact, have fun with people I have never met before and also to try out new and different experiences.”
