FairPrice Group – comprising NTUC FairPrice (FairPrice), NTUC Foodfare (Foodfare) and Kopitiam – announced a pledge, in collaboration with its strategic partners to contribute up to S$240,000 to benefit the less privileged through the Community Chest (ComChest) Heartstrings Buy initiative. It will also offer free MILO and homemade barley, worth up to S$138,000 in value, to all hospital staff, amidst the current Covid-19 situation.

Mr Seah Kian Peng, Group Chief Executive Officer of FairPrice Group, said, “FairPrice Group, along with our strategic partners, will engage the community to continue to do good and lend a helping hand to those who are in need despite the Covid-19 situation. Through the Heartstrings Buy initiative, we hope to remind the community to look beyond ourselves by sharing in our efforts to collectively help the beneficiaries supported by ComChest. At the same time, we also want to show our appreciation and lift the spirits of all our hospital staff who have been working selflessly throughout this tiring and difficult period. Together, we can create a greater social impact and overcome this challenging period.”

From 5 to 18 March 2020, under the Heartstrings Buy initiative by Community Chest, FairPrice and its business partners pledge to match a dollar-for-dollar donation, up to S$240,000, for over 30 selected items purchased at all FairPrice outlets, including FairPrice supermarkets, FairPrice Finest, FairPrice Xtra, FairPrice Xpress and Cheers convenience stores. The monetary donation will support various charity organisations in their work with persons from less privileged backgrounds, including adults with disabilities, children with special needs and youth-at-risk, families in need, persons with mental health conditions, and vulnerable seniors. (Please refer to Appendix A for the list of participating products.)

Mr Phillip Tan, Chairman of Community Chest, said, “Through the ‘FairPrice Heartstrings Buy’ campaign, NTUC FairPrice has made it easy and convenient for their consumers to show care towards the disadvantaged. These donations, amplified by the dollar-for-dollar matching donation from FairPrice Foundation, will go a long way towards meeting underserved and critical social needs in our community. We are very heartened by the efforts of NTUC FairPrice in serving as a conduit for all in our community to support Community Chest.”

To show appreciation to all healthcare providers working in hospitals, Foodfare and Kopitiam will provide complimentary MILO beverages at 13 Foodfare and Kopitiam stores from 4 to 17 March 2020. Wang Café, a subsidiary of Foodfare, will also provide all healthcare providers with complimentary homemade barley at five outlets from 4 to 10 March 2020.

Healthcare workers need only to present their employee pass or be in uniform to redeem the free beverage at participating outlets during operation hours. Terms and conditions apply. (Please refer to Appendix B for the full list of stores.) This beverage giveaway initiative by Foodfare, Kopitiam, and Wang Café is estimated to cost S$138,000 in all.
