Mediacorp and Temasek Polytechnic (TP) have put pen to paper on a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will see both parties jointly develop a range of programmes and initiatives beyond the classroom to engage students throughout their academic journey. This strategic partnership between Mediacorp and TP is the culmination of a ten-year history of cooperation, and aims to develop and nurture our youths by leveraging the respective expertise of both parties to offer more in-depth training and prepare them for careers in the media industry.

In this, TP students can look forward to an extensive range of programmes that have been structured to engage them across different aspects:

  1. On the individual level, TP students will be able to gain real-life exposure to the media industry through internships with Mediacorp, and glean insights to the ever-changing media landscape through formalised mentorships.
  2. In cohorts, learning journeys and talks by Mediacorp will offer customised sessions applicable for the different groups, while students will also have the rare opportunity to work on industry projects and co-create solutions for real business challenges for their final year projects.
  3. On a broader level, careers talks and roadshows by Mediacorp will also offer detailed information for graduating students looking for guidance on career planning.

In particular, Mediacorp and TP will embark on a special programme (refer to point b above) to allow Year 2 and Year 3 students a once-in-a-lifetime chance to develop solutions in response to business challenges set by Mediacorp, and present their ideas to Mediacorp’s management executives. Other than gaining first-hand exposure to real business situations, high performing students on this initiative can also anticipate potential internships, as well as employment with Mediacorp post-graduation. In parallel, teams of Mediacorp staff will work on the same challenges as part of internal innovation activities, effectively sparking a dual-solution approach that will bring fresh perspectives to existing challenges within the media industry.

Taken holistically, the three-year partnership will underpin Mediacorp and TP’s joint goal of nurturing future talents for the media industry – by reinforcing classroom learning for TP students through real industry experience, assisting them with development of strong portfolios, and ultimately, sparking interest and enthusiasm for careers in the media sector. An overview of initiatives under the MOU can be found in Annexe A.

Peter Lam, Principal & CEO of Temasek Polytechnic (TP) said, “This MOU formalises TP’s long-standing partnership with Mediacorp, and puts in place a comprehensive and structured student learning journey that spans across their three-year polytechnic education. Our students will gain valuable real-life learning experiences, allowing them to deepen their knowledge and apply their skills through projects and internships, while also immersing in the evolving media and entertainment space.”

Tham Loke Kheng, CEO of Mediacorp, said, “Mediacorp is committed to doing our part to nurture the next generation of media professionals by sharing our industry knowledge first-hand and giving students opportunities to put what they have learnt into practice. With this MOU, we look forward to further supporting Temasek Polytechnic in their pedagogical mission while strengthening our warm and close cooperation forged over the years.”

The MOU takes immediate effect and will be in place for a period of three years.
