Staying Healthy In The Age Of Tech

Technology can be a double-edged sword, especially when it comes to staying healthy. For instance, in this modern Age of Tech, you could be spending all day looking at a screen for work. Too much screen time can negatively impact your cognitive and emotional processes, and exposure to too much blue light can cause health problems such as retina damage. But at the same time, technology is enabling people to be healthier than ever before, via things like fitness trackers and sleep trackers. Let’s take a closer look at staying healthy in his modern technological era.

The Importance of Snacking

Although snacking has developed a somewhat bad image, snacks can actually be an essential part of your diet. When your energy levels drop, it is important you eat a snack to give you a boost of energy. The only reason snacking is now frowned upon is that snacks are often associated with unhealthy foods like doughnuts and pizza slices. But there are plenty of healthy snack options available. If you are spending a lot of your time in front of a screen and your energy and focus start to dwindle, take some time out to eat a healthy snack. Choose foods that are low in added sugar and fat and high in water and fiber. Try fruits, vegetables, nuts, low-fat dairy products, and whole-grain snacks. Or, for some truly delicious healthy snacks like dark chocolate almonds and salt and vinegar Faba beans, check out the fantastic snack boxes available at Snacks with Bite.

The Importance of Physical Activity

Too much screen time can be bad for your eyes, but it can also mean people do not exercise enough because they are spending more time sitting and being inactive. It cannot be stressed enough how important regular-physical-activity is. Physical activity can improve your muscle strength, boost your endurance, and help to alleviate stress and depression. When you exercise, oxygen and nutrients are delivered to your tissues and help your cardiovascular system work more efficiently. And the chemicals in your brain are stimulated during physical activity, which is why you can feel much happier and more relaxed after working out. You can use exercise to escape too much inactivity in front of a screen. But you can also use smart devices like fitness trackers to help you be more active and keep an eye on your fitness-related metrics, such as the distance you walk or run, your heart health, and your calorie consumption.

Using Smart Devices to Stay Healthy

There are plenty of other smart devices on the market besides fitness trackers that can help you to stay healthy in this modern age of technology. For example, getting enough sleep each night is crucial for maintaining your overall health and wellbeing. Sleep enables your body to repair and be fit for another day. It can even help you to prevent things like heart disease and agonal breathing. There are now numerous ways in which you can track your sleep, including bedside monitors, devices that fit underneath your mattress, and smartwatches and other wearables that track how much sleep you get and how much of that sleep is REM.
