NTUC FairPrice (FairPrice) today announced that all Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS) Blue cardholders will be able to enjoy a three per cent discount across all 149 FairPrice stores, FairPrice on Wheels mobile truck, and 84 Unity pharmacies island-wide, every Thursday from 15 July 2021 onwards till the end of the year.

This new initiative will complement FairPrice’s existing stable of discount schemes such as the Pioneer Generation (PG), Merdeka Generation (MG), Senior, and regular thematic deals and promotions to provide deeper discounts and offer better value for all.

Mr Seah Kian Peng, Group CEO of FairPrice Group, said, “The prolonged uncertainties brought about by Covid-19 have affected the lower-income families adversely. FairPrice’s CHAS Blue Discount Scheme will complement our various discount programmes by serving a focused and targeted segment who need the assistance more. This scheme will provide further savings and relief to help with their grocery needs.”

Ms Sun Xueling, Minister of State for Social and Family Development, and Education said, “COVID-19 has affected many Singaporeans. Some, including lower-income families, continue to feel the economic impact of the pandemic. I am heartened that NTUC FairPrice is launching this discount initiative for CHAS Blue cardholders, which will help reduce household expenses of lower-income families.”

“Community initiatives such as this complement our national schemes like the COVID-19 Recovery Grant to support those in need. Everyone can play a part in creating a more caring and inclusive society. I hope more corporates and community organisations can come forward to help Singaporeans in need, so that we emerge stronger together from this pandemic,” she added.

With the inclusion of the CHAS Blue Discount Scheme, FairPrice now offers four initiatives to help seniors and low-income families stretch their dollar further when shopping at FairPrice.

These include:

Day of the week Initiative Benefit
Monday PG Discount Scheme 3% discount
Tuesday Seniors Discount Scheme 2% discount
Wednesday PG & MG Discount Scheme 3% discount
Thursday CHAS Blue Discount Scheme 3% discount

To enjoy the CHAS Blue discount, shoppers need to present their valid CHAS Blue card, provided by the government, at cashier counters at all FairPrice supermarkets, FairPrice Shop stores, FairPrice Finest outlets, FairPrice Xtra hypermarkets, FairPrice on Wheels truck and all Unity pharmacies. At self-checkout counters, shoppers need to select the CHAS Blue discount option. The discount is subject to a $200 cap per transaction per day.

FairPrice believes in providing sustained and holistic support through community initiatives that create a positive impact on society.

FairPrice first introduced the Tuesday Seniors Discount Scheme in 2002 and has continued to run the discount scheme since, disbursing over $2 million on average annually. Recognising the contributions of the PG and MG, FairPrice launched the PG and MG discount schemes in 2014 and 2019 respectively when they were first introduced by the government. FairPrice has disbursed more than $24 million in discounts to PG members and close to $5 million to MG members since both the discount schemes were launched. This year, the PG, MG, and Seniors discount schemes are estimated to cost FairPrice more than $10 million.

In doing its part for the community, FairPrice has given out more than $158 million to FairPrice Foundation in support of various charitable causes since the Foundation was launched in 2008. Last year alone, FairPrice donated $20 million through FairPrice Foundation, to support the less fortunate, especially those most affected by the pandemic.
