1. Are You The One?

The challenge welcomes all innovators from all over the world to join! Mirroring CapitaLand’s global presence, the CapitaLand Sustainability X Challenge is open to all across the world. All individuals and companies worldwide are invited, if you have suitable sustainability innovations, join us!

2. The Rewards – Gold, Growth & Glory

CapitaLand will be crowning two winning solutions from the CapitaLand Sustainability X Challenge – the ‘High Impact Award’ and the ‘Most Innovative Award’. Come the grand finale in May 2020, the winning team will each receive S$50,000 project funding to start its pilot with CapitaLand. Projects will be assessed based on the impact, potential outcomes and depth of innovation. They should also be scalable and effectively deployed across the geographies that CapitaLand operates in and its different asset types. Are you up for it?

That’s not all! More importantly, your team will receive mentoring by a CapitaLand business leader and the exclusive opportunity to pilot, test and implement innovations at select CapitaLand properties in over 220 cities and 30 countries! It is not just bringing your innovation to life, but potentially scaling it in the future! Finalists will also have an opportunity to pitch their ideas to venture capitalist firms that are partners of the CapitaLand Sustainability X Challenge to secure potential investment opportunities.

Plus, your claim to fame – one of the first ever winner at the inaugural CapitaLand Sustainability X Challenge.

Even if you don’t have the award-winning innovation, fret not. Shortlisted participants will stand a chance to trial their innovations at CapitaLand’s global network of properties too.

3. The 7 Ways To Rise Up To The Challenge

CapitaLand is seeking to encourage more sustainability innovation and catalyse more collaborations within the built environment. There are a multitude of ways to improve the built environment, but we have developed 7 challenge statements across 4 themes we are hoping to solve with your submissions.

Theme 1: Low Carbon Transition

1. How might we achieve onsite clean energy solutions for existing buildings?
2. How might we achieve significant reduction in energy consumption for existing buildings?

Theme 2: Water conservation and resilience

3. How can we adopt new ways of managing water in existing properties in order to detect abnormalities in the water usage pattern and/or leakages?
4. How might we reduce potable water usage in existing buildings with water harvesting and/or recycling methods?

Theme 3: Waste management and the circular economy

5. How might we better segregate waste at source for recycling or treatment?
6. What is a viable circular economic solution that CapitaLand can introduce to manage resources and waste across CapitaLand properties and construction sites?

Theme 4: Healthy & safe buildings

7. How might we improve indoor air quality (IAQ) to enhance wellness of users in our existing buildings?

Ms Lynette Leong, Chief Sustainability Officer, CapitaLand Group, said: “The seven challenge statements in the CapitaLand Sustainability X Challenge reflect the key themes and goals in CapitaLand’s 2030 Sustainability Master Plan. In addition to tackling the challenges of lowering carbon emissions and water conservation as well as promoting circularity in our waste management practices, threats such as COVID-19 and the haze have sharpened our focus on further improving the health and safety of our building occupants and customers, beginning with elevating the indoor air quality at our properties. This will reinforce our leading position as a sustainable global real estate company,”
