Widespread Lack Of Holocaust Knowledge In The U.S.

A new survey has uncovered shocking levels of unawareness among young U.S. adults about the Holocaust. The research was carried out by the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany and it focused on millennial and Gen Z adults aged between 18 and 39. Nearly half of them, 48 percent, could not name a single one of the more than 40,000 camps and ghettos in Europe. 56 percent of respondents did not know what Auschwitz-Birkenau was.

Shockingly, nearly two-thirds of young American adults do not know that six million Jews were murdered during the Holocaust. There is a considerable difference in level of knowledge between states and Arkansas had the highest share of respondents unaware of the above death toll at 69 percent.
