Meat has been a part of our diet since the beginning of time, according to historical research. Nowadays, meat free diets are increasing in popularity among the current generation, not only as a way to reduce ‘animal cruelty’ but also due to the claims that it is best for you and it will provide you with all the nutrients required to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Unfortunately, this is not entirely true.

And albeit some meats are more beneficial than others, there are also a lot of myths related to meat diets and that formulate the negative impacts of this.

The ‘Meat is Not Healthy’ Myth

The number one myth that contributes to many people’s decision-making to having a meat free diet, is that meat does not provide human beings with the essential components of a healthy diet. Furthermore, many health conditions such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart disease and even obesity are often linked to having a meat based diet. Gullible individuals will forget that these conditions are majorly caused by a high consumption of sugar from unhealthy carbohydrates, such as potatoes, which break down in the body and can potentially dramatically increase glucose levels. According to the meat experts at www.cleaversorganic.com, there are different cuts of meat, and the quality can vary, for healthier choices you should not fully eliminate meat, but to consider organic similarly. Good quality meat can be expensive, but a  healthy diet consists of a balance of the different food components, of which meat is a substantial part. If you are wondering if you should eat meat or adopt a new free meat diet, this article will provide you with a few reasons why meat is essential in our diets.

We Are Well Equipped to Eat Meat

Eating meat has always been a part of our diet. This is demonstrated by our physical attributes such as having incisors for tearing meat, and molars for grinding it and our digestive system allows us to easily digest the meats and is biologically equipped to do so. If human beings were intended to survive on vegetables alone, our digestive system would be comparable to that of the cow, with four stomachs and the ability to ferment cellulose in order to break down vegetal substances.

Stable Blood Sugar Levels

Meat is composed of fat and is high in protein, this is vital to the maintenance of stable blood sugar levels in the body. This is very important in preventing some conditions such as type 2 diabetes and it will also keep you from getting hungry between meals or craving sugary and salty unhealthy foods whilst providing you with enough energy required to go about your day.

Supports Muscle Growth

Healthy muscles are important, not only to those going to the gym on a daily basis. Muscles provide you with the ability to do everyday things you probably do not consider and take for granted such as moving at all. In order to have healthy muscles, you need to appropriately nourish your body. Due to the percentage of protein in meats, this provides an amazing source of protein to maintain your muscles nourished and healthy and to achieve the muscle repair and recovery necessary, if you exercise. Albeit you can obtain protein from a vast range of different sources, and even take protein supplements which are widely available, however meat also provides you with different vitamins and minerals that other supplements may not.

Supports Fat burn

For the same reasons above, individuals who are looking to lose weight may deter from eating meat, although, believe it or not, meat can also support you burn fat. This is due to its high thermogenic effect, which means meat suppresses hunger and cravings in between meals and increases your metabolism. As mentioned above, if you eat meat, you are less likely to have cravings that lead you to eat the unhealthy food that makes you gain weight, such as sweets and crisps.

It Maintains the Health of Your Brain

Eating meat provides people with essential amino acids that the human body requires. This is vital in the maintenance of healthy neurotransmitter balances. Neurotransmitters regulate many of our abilities such as cognitive, physical and mental performance as well as sleeping cycles and emotional well-being. Empirical research has suggested that individuals who lack meat in their diets are more susceptible to suffering from neurotransmitter balances, leading to depression, anxiety and hyperactivity.

Meat not only is delicious, but as you can see, there are different reasons why meat is an essential component to any healthy human being. Not only our bodies are adequately equipped with the physical features to support the digestion of this food component, eating it provides us with so many different benefits that support a healthy physical and mental well-being. The key to a healthy diet is balance, and meat is a crucial part of it.
