Deloitte and Nanyang Business School (NBS) at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore) are collaborating to train a new generation of accountants to be skilled in audit analytics, where technology is leveraged in the application and analysis of data in auditing.
The memorandum of understanding to launch a new course in audit analytics for NTU accountancy students was symbolically inked by NBS Dean Professor Christina Soh and Mr Cheung Pui Yuen, Chief Executive Officer, Deloitte Singapore in a virtual ceremony today.
The first run of the course will commence in the new semester starting August 2020.
As the accounting profession increasingly leverages technological advancements to perform tasks such as data analytics, it is important for accountants to possess the skills needed to read and interpret the data and to perform higher value work that improves financial reporting standards and audit quality to remain relevant in the future.
This course aims to build audit analytics capabilities in the students so that they are equipped with the relevant skillsets and the right mindset when they enter the profession. It will also prepared them for what lies ahead as the role of the accountant continues to evolve.

Delivered over 13 weeks by a Deloitte Audit & Assurance Partner and an Audit Analytics Senior Manager, students taking the module will learn to apply data analytics in audit and practise on real-life examples through the development of prototype visualisation dashboards.

Upon completion of the course, the students will have an added advantage to be evaluated and considered for priority internship and job placements at Deloitte.
Mr Cheung Pui Yuen, Chief Executive Officer, Deloitte Singapore said, “It is exciting for us to be collaborating with Nanyang Business School (NBS) at NTU Singapore to equip future accountants with the skills that they need to thrive and grow in the profession. The skillsets and experience that they will gain from this course will allow them to be effective as the profession increasingly makes use of technology, and value-add to their organisations and their clients. This collaboration with NBS also benefits the profession as a whole. It is vital to build capabilities amid disruption and transformation so that the profession can continue to be of value to businesses and our communities.”
Professor Christina Soh, Dean, Nanyang Business School said, “NTU’s Nanyang Business School (NBS) is happy to partner Deloitte to provide our accountancy students with more opportunities to acquire important skills that are critical to future accountants. Through this Audit Analytics course, students will be learning to apply data analytics in the field of accounting and audit, and to use data to gain meaningful insights and make value-adding propositions.  The ability to harness and leverage digital technology such as data analytics will be essential to accountants as they help organisations to innovate, lead and transform.  With the introduction of this course, NBS continues its proud tradition of training and preparing students for the future economy.”
Offered as an elective course, this new course is open to all NBS accountancy students that have taken the pre-requisite AC2104 Assurance & Auditing.
