SIA Cargo Re-Certified For IATA CEIV Pharma, Adds New Stations To THRUCOOL Quality Corridor Network

Singapore Airlines (SIA) Cargo is expanding its quality corridor network with the addition of Copenhagen, Osaka and Stockholm stations.

This offers customers the option of using the Airline’s THRUCOOL1 network to transport pharmaceutical products to and from these cities via Singapore, with assurance of maximum attention to product integrity at each step of the journey.

SIA Cargo has been re-certified under IATA’s CEIV Pharma programme since January 2020, reaffirming its ability to handle high value, time-sensitive and temperature-controlled pharmaceutical cargo with speed, reliability and efficiency.

In 2017, SIA Cargo was the first airline in Asia Pacific to be awarded the globally-recognised pharmaceutical product handling accreditation. Since then, it has been improving its pharmaceutical-handling capabilities and offerings. This includes the launch of THRUCOOL in September 2018, the continued expansion of its quality corridor network, and the signing of master lease agreements with key temperature-controlled container vendors2.

Mr Chin Yau Seng, SIA’s Senior Vice President Cargo, said: “We are pleased that our IATA CEIV Pharma certification has been renewed after a re-certification audit. It reinforces the importance that we place on quality and reliability in the transportation of key pharmaceutical products. We remain committed to rolling out THRUCOOL to more locations with the expansion of our quality corridor network, while also looking for new ways to further enhance the product.”

Mr Conrad Clifford, IATA Regional Vice President, Asia-Pacific, said: “Cold chain logistics for pharmaceutical products is a growing segment of the air cargo business, with spending expected to grow 5-6% annually. Singapore Airlines’ renewal of their CEIV Pharma certification ensures that they continue to be well placed to serve the needs of pharmaceutical companies and transport these time and temperature sensitive products to locations around the world where they are most needed while ensuring the product integrity.”

1 SIA Cargo launched THRUCOOL in September 2018 as a cold chain service to transport high-value, time-sensitive and
temperature-controlled pharmaceutical cargo with speed and reliability. The service includes priority uplift and handling,
quick ramp transfers at airports, cold room facilities, as well as thermal blankets and covers for crucial insulation from external factors.

2 SIA Cargo signed a three-year agreement with SkyCell in May 2019 for the leasing of specialised temperature-controlled
containers designed to maintain pharmaceutical products at optimal temperatures throughout transportation.
