NTUC FairPrice Will Not Draw On National Stockpile Of Face Masks; Working To Secure New Supplies

NTUC FairPrice (FairPrice) shares Singaporeans’ concerns over the Wuhan coronavirus situation in Singapore, which has resulted in a surge in demand for face masks.

From the onset of the situation, FairPrice has proactively stocked its shelves with face masks to meet customer demand. The co-operative sourced widely, including from government stockpile, to ensure face masks were available to as many people as possible.

This morning, the Government announced that they will be distributing face masks to each household. As such, retailers will not be able to draw from the government stockpile.

FairPrice will support the Government’s new measures and will continue to secure new supplies of face masks for national deployment.

FairPrice thanks customers for their patience and urges them not to hoard face masks as doing so will deprive others who need them as well. As advised by the authorities, there is generally no need to wear a mask if one is not ill.  An individual only needs to wear a mask if one is unwell so as not to infect others.

The public is reminded also to verify any information that is shared on social media – various rumours have been spread in recent days, which has resulted in unnecessary confusion and disruption at various FairPrice supermarkets and Unity Pharmacy stores.
