Temperature screening will be implemented at Woodlands and Tuas Checkpoints from 24 January 2020, 12 noon onwards. This is in response to the novel coronavirus pneumonia development in Wuhan and exported cases to other cities and countries, coupled with the anticipated increase in travel volume in the lead up to the Lunar New Year holiday period.

Travellers arriving at the land checkpoints will have to undergo temperature screening conducted by on-site healthcare assistants. Suspect cases will be referred to hospitals for further assessment. Temperature screening will be implemented progressively for all arriving modes of transport as follows, and travellers are advised to follow our officers’ instructions:

  • By bus: Travellers will be screened at the alighting bus concourse or bus hall before immigration counters. Bus drivers will be screened at the security check area.
  • By train: Travellers will be screened at the alighting platform before entering the train hall for immigration clearance.
  • By car: Travellers are required to wind down their car windows for temperature screening at the security check area before immigration counters.
  • By motorcycle: Travellers are required to remove their helmets for temperature screening at the security check area after immigration counters.
  • By lorry: Travellers will be screened at the cargo platforms or immigration counters.

During the upcoming Lunar New Year holidays, arrival traffic is expected to be heavy between Saturday, 25 January and Tuesday, 28 January 2020. Coupled with the 2 | P a g e implementation of temperature screening for travellers, delays are expected and travellers are advised to check traffic conditions before embarking on their journey. 1 We seek travellers’ understanding and cooperation to work with our officers on site.

ICA has put up health advisories at both land checkpoints to advise travellers on the precautionary measures to take when travelling to or arriving from China. Travellers are advised to adopt these precautions at all times.

Given the evolving situation and ongoing investigations in China, Singapore residents who need to travel to the affected areas are advised to regularly check MOH’s website (www.moh.gov.sg) for updates. Travellers to China are also advised to stay vigilant, monitor developments and heed the advice of the local Chinese authorities while in China.
