In line with its constant pursuit of innovation, the 48th edition of Chingay Parade will present a 108-metre flying dragon that will be the annual event’s largest and is also touted by the makers to be the world’s longest. The impressive display will add to a strong line-up of exciting and energetic performances at one of Asia’s largest street and floats parade.

Conceptualised by the Parade’s Executive Committee and Xi’an Xiang Long Culture Performing Arts (China) and co-sponsored by Bengawan Solo, the flying dragon will measure two metres wide and weigh up to 90 kg – making it 5 times longer, 5 times wider and 14 times heavier than a conventional dragon. It took a team of 12 craftsmen about 2 months, from to complete this massive accomplishment.

On 31 January and 1 February 2020, the spectacular performance will be helmed by 6 skilful performers from Xi’an Xiang Long Culture Performing Arts, together with 25 local performers from Kuo Chuan Arts and Cultural (Singapore), in front of a 32,000-strong audience over two nights. The local team comprises not only performers who are Chinese, but also dragon dance performers of different ethnicities. The performance will also open with two radio-controlled LED Dragon kites created by local kite-flying enthusiasts group, GoFlyKite.

Other exciting visual treats include the release of firecrackers along the entire 200-metre parade route, the longest in Chingay to-date, to open the parade with a rousing start and a 45-sec pyrotechnics show in addition to the usual fireworks display.
